No 4x5-4x6 or larger CR39 resin filter will ever be as flat as a mounted screw on glass round filter.
Long telephoto lenses do not operate well
without a perfectly flat optical filter material.
The infinity telephoto focus goes soft.

This is flatness issue is not a problem with resin gradual filters
which are used mainly on ultra wide lenses.
